Stills

I have professionally shot most genres of photography, including aerial, industrial, advertising, scientific, portrait, surveillance and crime and crash scene forensics. But after four decades of policing, I relish the solo, deliberative process of crafting still life compositions in my well-equipped studio.
I choose these subjects to test and apply lessons left to us from the great painting Masters in terms of structure, lighting and ideas.

How
I work

I compose elements on the ground glass using camera movements of my Linhof M 679 to control perspective and focus. Lighting is then applied to shape shadows while forming dark/light transitions on raised surfaces to achieve a painterly depth.
